Invictus Games are Paralympic Sport event of international growing fame dedicated to wounded warriors who suffered serious injuries during the fighting and to veterans affected by diseases.
In 2014, London held the first Invictus Game edition with 400 members from 14 different countries.
After witnessing the USA Warrior Games, an adaptive sports competition for USA wounded veterans, Prince Harry became the ambassador of Invictus Games, promoting the staging of the first edition in the UK. As he said “Competitions like the Invictus Games aid in holistic healing throughout the recovery and rehabilitation process: mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically & socially. The Invictus Games serve as a reminder that there are Service men and women who adapt to a “new normal”, long after the Games are over. Military or not, anyone who experiences the Games will walk away changed.”
The role of Invictus Game is to highlight the clear benefits of adaptive sports in the lives of the wounded, ill, and injured Service members, their families and military caregivers. Thanks to sports and to the spirit of the competition, wounded, ill and injured veterans can go through a positively recovery and rehabilitation process to come on over again a “normal” daily life.
All Invictus members served with honor their Nation, and they can continue witnessing and honoring those values throughout the competitions of the 2016 Invictus Games. Invictus Members are the world new hero with a renovated and increased trust and self-esteem and nevertheless a stronger sense of belonging.
Fifteen nations are invited to participate in the 2016 Invictus Games, which will be held from May 8 – 12, 2016 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex perfectly combines together innovation, entertainment and sports world. For the occasion, it will be the home to an Olympic 50-meter pool with eight lanes and a warm up 25 meters pool. The two temporary pools designed by Myrtha, will be the arena of the swimming competitions, while at the end of the event they will be disassembled, moved and re-installed in another facility.
The sports of the Invictus Games 2016 will be ten: archery, indoor rowing, powerlifting, road cycling, sitting volleyball, athletics, basketball, rugby, tennis and of course, swimming.
