MYRTHA'S MOST STATE OF THE ART POOLS SET TO OPEN AT THE SPIRE INSTITUTE

It is a different world at the Spire Institute in Geneva

In the fall of 2010 Myrtha Pools teamed with the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio to design, engineer, manufacture and install “start to finish” the newest and most technologically advanced Myrtha Pool in USA. This fall the Spire Institute achieved its goal and is now a leading facility in the US aquatics industry.

SPIRE Institute is one of the largest indoor, multi-sport, training and competition complexes in the world. With more than 750,000 sq. ft. under roof and acres of outdoor facilities, it has the unique capacity to simultaneously host clubs, leagues, tournaments and championship events no matter the weather or the season. Every consideration has been taken to create an unparalleled experience for the athlete, the coach and the spectator. Spire's 175-acre campus, the academy will train and teach student-athletes in five sports -- soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, track and field, and a major focus on swimming. The Spire Institute boasts a combination like no other school in the nation.

Myrtha Pools are utilized at Spire as the focal point of the aquatics facility which will be the future home of not only a Post-Grad and High School Swim Academies but also future Swim Camps, Regional, State and National events. Spire is the home to two Myrtha Pools. The main competition pool is the only true Olympic sized pool in the region. The main competition pool is a 10 lane, 54 Meter pool with two (2-meter) flow-through moveable bulkheads and is 2-meters deep at its most shallow point. The pool also has Myrtha’s “state of the art” track start starting blocks.

The second Myrtha Pool at Spire is a 6-lane warm up/warm down and teaching pool allowing for maximum programmability. With an ADA ramp entry the teaching pool is sure to be a popular spot in the facility.

The Spire facility is one of the fastest pool designs in all of North America. With Myrtha’s Stainless Steel and PVC patented technology the Spire Institute is sure to take advantage of all of its features and benefits during its operation for years to come.

Spire co-founder Ron Clutter refers to the 1.2-million gallon pool as "the lake." Older natatoriums look and smell like musty basements. The Spire pool's interior tile lends the water a deep-sea blue color, which matches the second-level seating, and contrasts with the brightly lit, outdoor feel of the facility.

Myrtha Pools claims it will be among the fastest pools in the world because of its three-meter depth and a nearly flat gutter system, which reduces wave trains by draining off up to 6,000 gallons of water. It also features advanced filtration, lighting, timing and humidity controls.

"[The Spire pool] is the most technologically advanced and state-of-the-art pool that we have built to date," Myrtha CEO Kevin McGrath said in a statement. "The technology incorporated should make it one of the fastest pools in the world, if not the fastest."

Twin bulkheads can divide into two 25-meter or 25-yard pools. Twenty-foot decks can accommodate large meets, as well as additional bleachers and wheelchair-bound swimmers.

A 25-yard recreation/warm-up pool with a long wheelchair ramp is completed in an adjoining, but separate room. Still under construction are four therapy pools. One features an underwater treadmill and another has a floor that elevates for different therapeutic needs.

"We can take care of anybody of whatever body shapes and needs," Clutter said. "I guess what I like about the aquatics center is that it has everything in there for everybody, and I don't think we've left anybody out."

In appreciation of the vision and anticipated impact on the sports industry that the Spire Institute and the Aquatic Center in particular will have, Myrtha Pools has become a major partner of the institute. With the significant number of events to be held at the facility as well as the number of organizations and individuals that will be using the facility, we feel this facility will be an important asset not just for aquatic sports but also for everyone who will take advantage of the facilities. Myrtha will also continue to work with USA Swimming to promote the facility for their programs and competitions.
