In November of 2008 the Kremlin Bicêtre swimming pool (in Val de Marne, near Paris) was reopened to the public. The monumental structure built in 1999 on a former quarry, was closed for sanitary reasons and is now open to the public again in a new light after a year and half of renovations.
The building is almost entirely underground, and only the triangular roof may be seen from the outside which becomes an integral part of the surrounding area. The building had major renovations: the basement was reinforced, a new entrance was created, the locker-rooms were updated, relaxing & gym areas were made, as well as natural lighting due to glass windows throughout.
The structure is referred to as a “cathedral”, as it has the capacity to host up to 600 people. The heart of the building is the 50 x 20 m swimming pool with a depth varying from 0.80 to 4.20 m, a diving well with the popular “aileron mobile”, a new movable floor anchored to the pool wall that allows to divide the pool in sections for different activities.
The modular system was used also to renovate the swimming pool with the RenovAction Technology proposed by Myrtha Pools for the refurbishing of old and large pool as this one.
To complete the pool structure there is a children’s pool with water toys and features. One of the highlights of this pool is that it has special lighting which makes a shining lantern appear.
In the Gallery here below it is possible to look at other pictures of the centre.
