GMO Athletes Park Yunomaru

Yunomaru Kogen Sports Exchange Facility. Tōmi, Nagano

GMO Athletes Park Yunomaru (Yunomaru Kogen Sports Exchange Facility) is an all-inclusive high-altitude training center where the Myrtha Olympic swimming pool stands out. A cutting-edge project inaugurated in late 2019 and nicknamed Tomi Highland, derived from the name of the city where it stands and the altitude at which it is located. Situated 1750 meters above sea level this facility hosts the highest swimming pool in all of Japan. Thanks to the climate and the modern sports facilities (athletics track, tennis court, gym and a 50m eight-lane swimming pool with removable headwalls), this destination is ideal for intensive training of the Japanese national swimming team. The swimming pool built with modular Myrtha stainless steel panels not only hosts top-level athletes, but also university students and amateur sportsmen. The project of the well-known architectural studio, APL, was about a temporary swimming pool, but thanks to Myrtha technology the swimming pool will remain in the Yunomaru center for 10 years, to be then dismantled and reinstalled at a local public school.
