Napoli 2019, 30th Summer Universiade
July 2019.
Naples, Italy, had the honour of hosting the 2019 Universiade. Sometimes referred to as the World Student Games, the Universiade features university aged athletes from around the world. In terms of number of athletes, participation in the Universiade is second only to the Olympic Games.
The 2019 Universiade featured aquatics at the Scandone Sports Complex in Naples where an existing indoor pool was home to swimming and water polo events. Missing the full-size warm up pool that was a requirement to host a top-level international event, Myrtha was contracted to provide a 50 m outdoor pool to sit alongside the existing indoor pool.
Myrtha’s flexible technology allows us to create pools in almost any situation or environment. And our menu-like services make it possible for us to contribute in the most helpful way for any given project. For the Naples Universiade, Myrtha technology was the perfect choice for an outdoor venue. And, installation of the pool was managed by the contracted development group using a skilled Myrtha-trained installation team.
The new pool has been fitted with cutting edge accessories including recessed ladders with removable handles, Myrtha track-start blocks and recessed step, to easily allow rest during training. After the games, the new Scandone Sports Complex pool has been covered with a tensile roof to become a community aquatics facility.
