The Artemis Centre, Melbourne Girls Grammar

Melbourne, Australia

Artemis, the goddess of Greek mythology, is the name of the sports center of the Melbourne Girls Grammar, a historical school born at the end of the 19th century, but projected towards the future. The philosophy that inspires the didactic criteria of the Melbourne Girls Grammar has its roots in the ideals of the ancient Greeks: a sound mind is in a sound body for his students. For this reason in addition to modern science laboratories, the school has built a state-of-the-art sports center named Artemis, the goddess of hunting and patroness of women. A perfect name for a girls’ school.

The pride of the Artemis Center is certainly the swimming pool: a 25m six-lane with water heated to 29º and equipped with two lanes with movable floor that allow you to modify depth of the pool.
The pool is also perfect for student competitions thanks to the starting blocks and the two stands: one indoor and one on the opposite side which is a real outdoor amphitheater that communicates with the pool thanks to the movable windows.

The center also has indoor basketball, volleyball and badminton courts. To complete the offer, a fitness area where to practice CrossFit and cardio-fitness activities and a study area for dance, yoga and pilates. On the top floor there is a space, overlooking the botanical gardens of the city, used both as a study room and as a workshop room. We don’t know what the future holds for the girls and young women of the Melbourne Girls Grammar School. However, the joy of competition, the well-being deriving from aquatic activities and the desire to overcome oneself will be the pillars for their entire lives, values learned in the waters of the Myrtha Pools pool and in the Artemis Center.
