Domžale swimming pool reimagined as a community recreation hub
In the town of Domžale, just north of Ljubljana, a long-awaited renovation has transformed the local swimming complex from a single pool into a three-pool destination. Officially opening on July 8, 2026, the renewed complex reflects the growing demand for versatile, multigenerational aquatic facilities within Slovenia’s public infrastructure. Designed by architectural firm Ravnikar-Potokar and built by general contractor Trgograd, the project incorporates Myrtha Pools technology and expands the municipality’s offerings for competitive swimmers, families, and young children, all within a single outdoor complex.
At the heart of the renovated complex is a 50-meter competition pool featuring removable headwalls and Myrtha Track Start blocks. This gives Domžale a facility capable of hosting national swimming competitions while maintaining the flexibility needed for training and community use.
Alongside the competition pool, a dedicated leisure pool supports learn-to-swim programs and recreational swimming, with water slides adding an element of fun for younger visitors. Located on either side of the pool are two relaxation areas, each with its own distinctive features. Concealed LED lighting follows the contours of both areas, while one includes hydromassage seating and the other neck massage fountains and hydromassage jets, providing two different relaxation experiences. The areas are connected by a shared sunbathing space, creating a continuous wellness zone within the complex.
Completing the aquatic offering is a shallow baby pool featuring a beach entry, a concealed overflow edge, and playful fountains designed for the youngest swimmers. Safety was a particular focus in this area: the pool includes a slip-resistant finish and Myrtha Soft Floor technology, providing children with a softer and more comfortable surface underfoot.
Beyond the pools themselves, the site also includes children’s playgrounds, an outdoor fitness area, table tennis facilities, and badminton courts, completing a space designed for sports, relaxation, and social interaction across all generations.
Domžale represents the latest chapter in a relationship between Myrtha Pools and Slovenia that dates back to the mid-1990s, when Histi d.o.o. became the official Myrtha Pools dealer for Slovenia and the surrounding Southeast European markets of Croatia, Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, helping establish Myrtha technology as a reference point throughout the region. One of the company’s earliest completed projects in Slovenia was the indoor pool at the University of Ljubljana in 1997. This project paved the way for a long series of installations across the country’s aquatic landscape, including five Olympic-size pools, two 25-meter pools, and an aquapark.
This legacy includes the historic Kolezija Swimming Center in Ljubljana, the oldest swimming complex in the Slovenian capital. Its 2015 renovation combined Myrtha’s modular stainless-steel technology with sustainable, energy-efficient systems, bringing a 19th-century site back into modern public use. More recently, Myrtha technology has also been installed at SportCity Ilirija in Ljubljana and the Novo Mesto Aquatic Center, further extending the company’s presence across Slovenia’s competitive and community swimming infrastructure.
Central to Myrtha’s presence in Slovenia has been its collaboration with the Slovenian Swimming Federation, together with local distributor and installation partner Histi d.o.o. This partnership, evident in projects such as the Češča Vas Aquatic Center, reflects Myrtha’s broader approach across Southeast Europe: working directly with national federations to ensure that competition facilities meet the technical requirements of elite swimming while remaining accessible to local communities. Domžale continues this approach, delivering an Olympic-standard competition pool alongside leisure and learn-to-swim facilities designed for everyday public use.
For the Municipality of Domžale, the project represents a significant upgrade to its public sports and recreational infrastructure. The new complex is expected to become a central gathering place for the local community for years to come, while reinforcing Slovenia’s role within Myrtha Pools’ long-standing regional network.
