Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre

In an effort to increasingly implement and improve its infrastructural apparatus, the city of Darwin has chosen to renovate the old Casuarina Aquatic Centre, with the aim of providing its citizens with a state-of-the-art, modern and multifunctional site that serves as a collective gathering place as well as a refuge against the summer heat.

The Casuarina Aquatic Centre was designed by Colab Architects with a dual focus on renovation and new facility implementation. The goal was to optimise the use of existing facilities while also adding new ones. In this context, the experience of Myrtha Pools contributed to the achievement of the goal, also facilitated by the support and collaboration with Blueprint Aquatics and SCP. Thanks to RenovAction technology, it was possible to renovate the existing eight-lane outdoor Olympic-size pool without the need for complete structural demolition. In addition to this, Myrtha also provided for the construction of an outdoor learn-to-swim pool from scratch.

The latter was constructed with a shallow depth, a crucial feature for a pool of this nature, ensuring a secure and appropriate setting for those experiencing the joy of swimming for the first time. The two pools are equipped with design canopies that provide ample shade over the pools throughout the day.

In addition to the aquatic facilities, the center offers a wide range of amenities, including a bar and BBQ area, a basketball court, and a large lawn that surrounds the various areas. The Casuarina Aquatic Center is a prominent community landmark, providing a safe and accessible space that aims to meet the psycho-physical and social needs of citizens.
