In Munich, O2 Surftown MUC stands as a unique project that has made the Bavarian city a perfect place for learning how to surf, and also an ideal destination for competitive surf events.
The main goal of this surf lagoon – created through the technological partnership of Endless Surf and Myrtha Pools – is to make this Olympic sport popular and accessible, regardless of geographic location, by expanding its range far beyond coastal areas with the right natural conditions. The result of this 180-meter-wide partnership is a lagoon that can be divided into four zones, each accommodating up to 16 surfers at the same time, depending on their experience level.

The use of Myrtha's technology allowed for a significant reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional concrete solutions, thanks to Myrtha’s modular stainless-steel structure.Myrtha's expertise in designing and constructing large freeform pools, combined with Endless Surf’s knowledge in wave generation, made it possible to create one of the first next-generation surf lagoons. The result is a lagoon capable of producing waves up to 3 meters high, suitable for all skill levels and equipped with an energy-efficient system. The collaboration between Myrtha and Endless Surf was a true partnership, with Myrtha's team of engineers providing support in developing the wave-generating chamber.
In addition to its role in the design and construction of Endless Surf’s first surf lagoon, Myrtha was also responsible for the installation’s filtration and disinfection systems. To ensure optimal water circulation in the nearly 8,000-square-meter lagoon, Myrtha Pools used the “Strahlenturbulenz” system, an advanced water reintroduction system with special wall inlets. This solution, with more than 60 wall inlets, eliminated the need for piping beneath the lagoon, which reduced installation time and costs and improved water circulation.
The beach entry and the efficiency of the wave generator at Surftown MUC create a realistic and natural surfing environment, ideal for both advanced training and recreational surfing. The lagoon’s floor surface was made using Myrtha Skin, a special coating that ensures perfect waterproofing, giving Surftown both stainless steel walls and flooring. The O2 Surftown MUC lagoon can generate ideal waves for both beginners and professional surfers. For the first time, an artificial lagoon was the venue for the German Surfing and Wave SUP (stand-up paddleboard) Championships, opening new horizons for inland competitive surfing.
