Baku 2015, 1st European Games – Azerbaijan

The first edition of the European Games will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 12th to 28th, 2015 and will feature more than 6,000 athletes from all Europe competing in thirty different sports.

The new Baku Aquatics Centre, designed by the Spanish architect Joaquim Pujol, and specifically built for the European Games, will host the aquatic competition of this important event. Inside the facility, Myrtha Pools installed three permanent pools to host swimming, diving, and synchronized swimming competition as well as a whirlpool bath close to the diving pool.

Additionally, Myrtha Pools installed two temporary pools for water polo competitions inside the Water Polo Arena, a temporary structure located in the parking lot close to the Aquatic Centre.

The three permanent pools of the Baku Aquatics Centre, a 50m-competition pool, a 50m warm-up ad a diving pool, have been built using Myrtha technology. Both of the 50m pools are provided with competition accessories, while the diving pool is equipped with air safety cushion for diving, the Myrtha Pools special system that produces a uniform mixture of water and air in the area where the diver enters the pool thus reducing the impact to the diver.

The Defender Filtration system was chosen for the filtration of both the permanent pools and the temporary ones. The system guarantees a high quality of the water and considerable cost savings in chemical products, water and electricity.[:]
